Identification of the Holocaust victims in Gherla / Szamosújvár

Members of the team of our institute contributed to the identification of the names of the Holocaust victims of Gherla /Szamosújvár and surroundings. Approximately 1,200 people were rounded up in May 1944 in the town of Gherla / Szamosújvár and the neighboring settlements. They were transported by the Hungarian authorities to the ghetto of Gherla / Szamosújvár and ended up later in the ghetto of Cluj / Kolozsvár.

The monument was erected thanks to the efforts of Judith and Mike Klein, US citizens born in Gherla, and was inaugurated in May 22, 2016. See details:
